On Wednesday April 16, 2025 at approximately 1125 hours, the Wading River Fire Department was activated for a working structure fire on 19th Street across from Wading River Fire Department Station 2, where smoke and flames were visible. On arrival, department members visualized heavy fire on the first floor and exterior of the structure, which was threatening to spread to an adjacent home. The department's mutual aid plan was immediately activated while Assistant Chief Denise Gluck (6-3-33) established command. Shortly thereafter, Assistant Chief Keith Ryan (6-3-32) arrived and took over command while Chief Gluck transitioned to operations.

The fire was placed under control in less than 30 minutes. During overhaul, there was a partial collapse of the second floor that resulted in the injury of 2 firefighters. The firefighters were treated and the scene and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Mutual aid was received from Riverhead Fire Department, Rocky Point Fire Department, Ridge Fire Department, Brookhaven National Laboratory Fire Department, Sound Beach Fire Department, Manorville Fire Department, Middle Island Fire Department, Manorville Ambulance, Riverhead Ambulance, and Stony Brook University Hospital EMS.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Riverhead Town Fire Marshal, Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal, and Suffolk County Police Department. All units were back in service at 1558.
