By Deputy Chief Mark Donnelly
December 3, 2022
This past Saturday, during rain and wind event, WRFD was contacted by members of the Kerry P Hein US Army Reserve Center about an issue with their US Flag. The members explained that there was some sort of issue with the flagpole that they were unable to resolve. They explained that the flag was currently tangled and was unable to be lowered. The members also explained that of all days for this to happen, that a new base commander was going to be visiting today. WRFD members Martin and Deveny contacted the Chiefs and responded to the base to provide assistance with our ladder truck (6-3-4). Fire firefighter Martin set up the aerial, climbed to the tip and was able to untangle and remove the damaged flag. The flag was handed over to the Army members to be proper folded and stored. Unfortunately, due to damage to the flagpoles rope system, a new flag could not be flown. The Chiefs, Officers, and Members of WRFD would like to thank the service members of Kerry P Hein Army Reserve Center ad ALL US Service members, for their service to our country.
